The Artist
Dimeji is a Nigerian born artist based in Charlotte, NC and Winston-Salem, NC. Tilling passion from his African heart with American soil, Dimeji succeeds in cultivating evocative and emotional scenes of assimilation. At once hauntingly familiar and intimately worldly, his bold use of color creates a luminous quality of melancholia, allowing the viewer a powerful sense of human-ess.

Influences of Fauvism and 60s Bay Area figurative, as well as concepts from the Yoruba language are drawn on and expressed. A few examples are 'Ona,' meaning embellishment of form; 'Ara,' creativity, 'Era,' improvisation and 'Pipe,' equaling completeness.

Adding to his native Nigeria and new home, Charlotte, Mr. Onafuwa has also exhibited his art in Athens, West Virginia. He is currently the president and creative director of Casajulie Visual Communications.
